Private Equity After The World’s “Great Recession”
“After the recent economic meltdown, naysayers are forecasting that private equity is dead and that the industry will not be able to refinance the $1.0 Trillion of private equity debt outstanding.
In John Castle’s view, this is far from true. He argues that U.S. private equity funds with over $500 Billion of uncalled commitments are among the most liquid sources of capital in America. Further, the high yield debt markets have already opened. More debt money has been raised in the last six months than all of 2008. Companies bought now by private equity firms are likely to generate very high returns as the economy improves. The sky could not be sunnier than for private equity”
